Until now, resetting a forgotten eID PIN often required a physical visit to the authorities or the sending of a letter. The fact that this will be possible online in future removes the biggest barrier to use in Germany. It will make the eID “smartphone-ready” and ensure that users do not fail due to a forgotten PIN during wallet onboarding.
